Coatings for wooden cladding prove fruitful for Estonian producer

With a philosophy of ‘wood for life’ it is unsurprising that Puidukoda has been working with Teknos coatings for over 14 years.

Firm in the belief that wood improves living spaces both inside and outside, this Estonian based manufacturer has been responsible for producing cladding for buildings all around the world.

Coating line set up

When Puidukoda first started coating wood, they turned to Teknos for advice. With many years of experience in wood finishing, Marek Reppo, Business Support Manager for Teknos, was able to support his new customer in choosing coating equipment. They went for a combination of Cefla, Ceetec and Makor, with the added benefit that Teknos coatings have been used and proven to be successful through this equipment on many other Teknos customer lines.

Excellent finish

The success of Teknos coatings on Puidukoda’s newly designed line was not only important for the smooth-running of their operations but also for the quality of their finish. A properly prepared surface, coating application and drying method is essential for the durability of exterior wood’s finish, making it last longer – a Teknos ethos that fits naturally with Puidukoda’s ‘wood for life’ approach.

Tailored cladding and fire retardant solutions

Coating on FSC® certified softwoods from the Nordics, Teknos coatings are used to protect both interior and exterior wooden products. Marek explains more “Puidukoda applies a number of different opaque and translucent Teknos coating systems to suit their customers’ needs. As well as our standard systems, we are providing tailored solutions to suit Puidukoda customer requirements such as a coating system with a final topcoat for on-site application.”

“Puidukoda also use our TEKNOSAFE fire retardant systems for interior wood and opaque system for exterior wood. These Teknos intumescent coating systems meet B-s1,d0 fire classification and are available in all colours” Marek continues.

Projects all over the world

Amongst the projects displaying Teknos exterior industrial coatings on Puidukoda products are a timber-clad cottage in Sweden, a showroom in Estonia and supermarket cladding finished in the company’s signature yellow shade. In addition, the famous Oodi Library in Helsinki boasts an Accoya wood terrace by Puidukoda, in a soft, natural Teknos system shielding the terrace from the harsh Finnish weather. “Our close working relationship developed over the years has resulted in a deep understanding of our customer’s needs, meaning they receive value-added service that helps to drive their businesses forward” continues Marek.
