HELO 90

Gloss special varnish

  • Wear resistant
  • Solvent-borne
  • Varnish

HELO 90 is a fast drying urethane/alkyd based varnish with good resistance properties. The varnish is suitable for varnishing all demanding woodwork indoors and outdoors. Finish: full gloss.

Examples of uses are wooden plank and parquet floors, furniture, yachts and other wooden surfaces whenever a durable varnish coat is desired.

HELO 90 provides excellent resistance to action by weather and water. The varnish film has good gloss retention and does not crack or disintegrate. The varnish contains UV absorber, and therefore the resultant coat yellows very little. It protects the woodwork against greying and cracking. HELO 90 produces a varnish film which is hard and at the same time elastic and thus withstands abrasion and impacts. Detergents, grease or oil do not damage it.

Surface preparation

Clean the surfaces from grease and dirt. Wash varnished surfaces with RENSA SUPER paint cleaner. Matt down old, intact varnish coats. If the old varnish coat is brittle or flaking, it is removed by scraper and paint remover. Cautious burning off can also be used. Thereafter the surface is sanded and sanding dust is carefully removed. Objects that are intended for outdoor use are before the varnishing primed with clear wood preservative from the WOODEX series. Sand the surface again before varnishing and remove the dust.

Application

Before use stir the varnish thoroughly down to the bottom of the can. For priming thin HELO 90 by adding about 20% TEKNOSOLV 1621. Sand lightly and remove the dust before the top coating. Top coating with undiluted HELO 90. Apply three or four coats to yachts and other demanding woodwork. On internal woodwork two or three coats are sufficient. Sand lightly and remove the dust between all varnish coats. Apply the varnish with a broad varnish brush. There must be good ventilation during the application and the drying period of the varnish. Note! For outdoor use we recommend tinted varnish.

Application conditions

The surface to be varnished has to be dry. During the varnishing and drying period the temperature of the ambient air, the surface and the varnish shall be above +10 °C and the relative air humidity below 80 %.

Maintenance

The varnished surface reaches its final hardness and washability within 3 - 4 weeks. Rough handling and washing is to be avoided during this period. Stained surfaces can be cleaned with a moist cleaning cloth or mop. Use a neutral detergent. Very dirty surfaces can later be cleaned with a slightly alkaline universal washing detergent.
