Plans to spruce up your home get underway. It’s time to rejuvenate the home from tired to inspired - and one of the most effective ways to transform your home is via a lick of luxurious paint. 

One question you are then faced with is – ‘Just how much paint do I need?’ – and that’s where this helpful blog comes in.

However, before you rush in with the tape measure, be mindful that the amount of paint you need is dependent on a few more things other than the square footage of the room.

Current wall colour

When applying paint to a wall, it’s far easier to cover a white or light wall with dark paint, than it is to cover a dark wall with light paint.  So if you are thinking of transforming your red dining room to a soft grey, you will need to consider both the quantity, type and quality of the paint required.

Be aware that you may need to consider a primer or undercoat when changing from a strong colour.  We’ve all been there – having to apply 3 or 4 coats to get the right coverage – and so this is where thinner, cheaper paints, become a false economy – and where quality luxury paint comes into their own.

As the old adage states, ‘You get what you pay for’ – and when it comes to paint and getting a quality finish, then it’s certainly worth investing a little bit more at the outset – as it’s likely to save you time and money in the long run.

What’s to be transformed?

Another thing to consider is what it is that you are painting.  It is a wall – or a piece of furniture.  If you are finally getting round to giving new life to that old wooden kitchen dresser to transform it into a piece qualified to be photographed on a shoot for Elle Décor, then you really need to consider the type of paint you select.

Choose a paint which is specifically for painting wooden furniture – don’t chance it with any old pot you find in the garden shed.  Again, you’ll find that luxury paints which have been designed specifically to paint wood and wooden furniture, not only offer you a wider range of luxurious and contemporary colours to choose from, but again, the quality of the paint means that often you can get away with a single application.

Size of object or space you need to cover

Last but not least, there’s the actual size of the object or space you need to cover.

Our advice would be:
